AFCON: List Of Nigerians Who Died Watching Super Eagles Vs South Africa Semi-Final Match

No fewer than five Nigerians tragically lost their lives during the semi-final match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the African Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cote D’Ivoire, Sportxparte reports.

The AFCON semi-final match was filled with tension as the Super Eagles emerged victorious over the Bafana in penalty shootouts.

Among the deceased were:

  • Dr Cairo Ojougboh, a prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
  • A corps member named Samuel serving in Adamawa State.
  • Ayuba Abdullahi, Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, Malete.
  • Mikail Osundiji from Olomoore area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
  • Osondu Nwoye, a businessman originally from Anambra, collapsed inside the stadium and later passed away in a hospital.

Additionally, it was reported that Ojougboh, a former Member of the House of Representatives, slumped in his house in Abuja while watching the match.

Abdullahi tragically lost his life due to the overwhelming anxiety that ensued after the match.

He was present at a viewing centre in the Sango area of Kwara state when he passed away during the penalty kick.

Similarly, Samuel, a member of the National Youth Service Corps from Kaduna State, also met his untimely demise during the penalty shootout. It is alleged that he passed away just moments before the final kick, which ultimately secured Nigeria’s victory in the match.
