Arsenal In Shocking Move For Ex-Real Madrid Player, Borja Mayoral
Arsenal is allegedly making a £22 million offer for Borja Mayoral of Getafe.
The Gunners hope to answer their immediate need for a productive striker and strengthen their front line with this bid.
According to rumours, Arsenal made a risky effort to bolster its attacking options by making a £22 million offer for the former Real Madrid academy graduate, Borja Mayoral, who currently plays as a striker for Getafe.
Mayoral has made 19 appearances in La Liga this season, scoring 12 goals. Arsenal, led by Mikel Arteta, are eager to address their goal-scoring problems, but they are constrained in what they can achieve during this window because they actually adhere to FFP laws, unlike other teams, Sportxparte reports.
Ivan Toney of Brentford was initially Arteta’s top pick to bolster the front line, but because of Brentford’s high valuation of £100 million and Toney’s desire to pay Brentford back for supporting him throughout his suspension, Arsenal is now focusing on Mayoral.
Getafe is holding out for a price closer to £39 million for its star striker, who is now valued at roughly €15 million, despite Arsenal’s substantial offer. After moving from Real Madrid to Getafe in the summer of 2022 for €10 million, Mayoral’s journey to become an Arsenal target began.
With 29 goals and four assists in 78 games, including two in the Copa del Rey, he has had a significant impact for Getafe. His efforts this season have been especially noteworthy, as they have greatly aided in Getafe’s ascent to eighth place in the La Liga rankings and their near-certain qualifying for Europe. Mayoral has previously expressed interest in the Premier League.
He had previously been noticed by Crystal Palace when he was in Rome. Three years later, he appears to be a viable answer to Arsenal’s attacking problems, particularly in light of the team’s recent poor performances in front of goal, most notably in their defeat to Liverpool.
Arteta had voiced reservations about adding a new striker, focusing instead on strengthening and developing the current team. Arteta said, “A striker signing by Arsenal does not seem realistic right now.”
He emphasized the significance of raising performance levels with current players and giving them the assistance and instruction they require. The 26-year-old has drawn interest from Brentford and Fulham as well, but Arsenal has moved quickly to put itself ahead of the competition for Mayoral’s services.
