Aston Villa Complete Signing Of Onana As Chelsea Seal Deal For USA Star Player

Aston Villa have successfully concluded the signing of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

The Belgian international signed a five-year contract following the two clubs’ agreement on a transfer fee, estimated to be around £50 million, for the 22-year-old player.

Onana’s impact at Goodison Park has been minimal since joining the team in 2019, despite his £35 million transfer from Lille, as the team struggled.

However, following his appearance for Belgium at the Euro 2024, Unai Emery, the manager of Villa, is optimistic about his contribution to the squad as they gear up for their inaugural season in the Champions League.

The departure of Douglas Luiz to Juventus last month has not only created financial and space opportunities for Onana but also ensures Villa remains compliant with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.

In preparation for the upcoming season, Villa has also secured the services of Ross Barkley from Luton, the Juventus duo Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea, Cameron Archer from Sheffield United, Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, former winger Jaden Philogene from Hull, and Everton’s Lewis Dobbin.

Everton is also set to benefit from the financial injection provided by Onana, who has faced a challenging period at the club, starting only two of the last six games towards the end of the season, despite the team securing top-flight status.

Chelsea Signing

In the meantime, Chelsea has entered into a contract agreement with United States left-back Caleb Wiley, securing him a six-year deal.

The 19-year-old athlete has joined the Blues from Major League Soccer’s Atlanta United, with the transaction reportedly valued at £8.5 million.

Wiley has been integrated into Atlanta’s first-team roster since 2022. He has previously represented the United States national team in a senior match against Mexico in October of the previous year.

Currently residing in Paris, Wiley is also a member of the United States team that participates in the Olympic Games football tournament.

It is anticipated that he may spend the upcoming season on loan at Strasbourg, a club affiliated with the same ownership group as Chelsea.
