Barcelona Settle Differences With La Liga Over Youngster Gavi
Barcelona, the renowned Spanish football club, has reached an agreement with La Liga today regarding the registration status of their talented young midfielder, Pablo Martín Páez Gavira, commonly known as Gavi.
Unfortunately, Gavi is currently facing a long-term absence from the field due to a severe knee injury sustained while representing Spain in November.
However, even before his injury, Barcelona found themselves entangled in a prolonged dispute with the governing body of Spanish club football. This dispute arose from Gavi’s registration status within the region of Catalonia.
The influential figures within Barcelona have persistently advocated for Gavi to be officially registered as a member of their first-team squad.
Although the 19-year-old was initially granted this status early last year, the decision was later overturned by the National Court, ruling in favour of La Liga. The concerns raised by La Liga were primarily related to Barcelona’s financial limitations.
Barcelona’s pleas were once again answered last summer, but La Liga’s appeal created uncertainty due to a delay in the hearing process.
However, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, the parties finally resolved their differences.
According to RAC1, Barcelona and La Liga have reached a definitive agreement, ensuring that Gavi will remain a first-team player going forward.
This means that the Spanish international, upon recovering from injury, will not be at risk of being demoted to the youth team and will continue to wear the number 6 jersey in Barcelona’s senior squad.
