Barcelona has announced that Spanish teenager Pau Cubarsi, who has been impressed with his solid performances in central defense during his breakout season, has renewed his contract with the La Liga club until 2027.

“FC Barcelona and player Pau Cubarsi have reached an agreement to extend his contract, which will tie him to the club until 30 June 2027,” wrote Barca, adding that the new contract contains a release clause worth €500 million (£431m).

Since being given the opportunity by coach Xavi Hernandez in January, Pau Cubarsi has experienced rapid growth, becoming a key player in central defense. Alongside 16-year-old winger, Lamine Yamal, he represents the fresh talent driving a revitalized Barcelona forward.

Pau Cubarsi has delivered exceptional performances, particularly standing out in Champions League matches against Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain. His contributions have brought much-needed stability to a previously unsettled Barcelona defense.

Despite having only played a few matches for his club, Pau Cubarsi has already earned a call-up to the Spanish national team for a friendly against Colombia. It is anticipated that he will be included in La Roja’s squad for the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany next June.
