Basketball Legend, Michael Jordan’s Sneakers Sell For $8 Million
Championship sneakers won by former American professional basketball player Michael Jordan have been sold for a staggering $8 million.
This price set a new world record for the basketball legend, SportXparte reports.
Sotheby’s, the renowned auction house, revealed that the sale of these shoes marked a significant milestone for Jordan.
The collection consisted of six individual Nike Air Jordans, each worn by Jordan during his six NBA championship victories in the 1990s.
These iconic sneakers were gifted by Jordan to Tim Hallam, a communications executive for the Chicago Bulls, following crucial games that led the team to their six NBA championships between 1991 and 1993, as well as 1996 and 1998.
The auction at Sotheby’s in New York achieved an unprecedented purchase price, making it the highest ever recorded for such a unique offering and the second highest for any Michael Jordan collectables.
Sotheby’s proudly declared in an undisclosed statement that the prices achieved for the “Dynasty Collection” are unlikely to ever be duplicated. The buyer’s identity, however, remains undisclosed.
“Today’s record-breaking price is a testament to the GOAT,” said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s Head of Modern Collectibles, using a popular acronym for “greatest of all time.”
