Bayer Leverkusen continues to defy expectations and make history with each passing game this season. Their recent 5-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to an impressive 48 games and also showed their unwavering dominance and determination on the field.

The match started with a bang much inside 15 minutes when Granit Xhaka thundered home from the edge of the area to fire them into an early lead setting the tone for Leverkusen’s performance. Despite a brief scare when Frankfurt equalized through Hugo Ekitike, Leverkusen quickly regained control with Patrik Schick’s well-timed goal just before halftime.

Shortly after their advantage, Jonas Hofmann had a chance to double the lead when he selflessly passed to Exequiel Palacios, but a crucial block from Willian Pacho kept Frankfurt in the game. However, Die Adler soon found their rhythm, with Hugo Ekitike scoring from a well-executed short-corner routine, marking their first significant attack.

As halftime approached, Frankfurt gained momentum, but Omar Marmoush squandered a golden opportunity by blasting his shot wide when faced with an open goal.

Just before halftime, Patrik Schick extended Leverkusen’s lead with a powerful header. Frankfurt’s hopes dwindled further after the break when Niels Nkounkou’s foul led to a penalty, which Palacios converted. A swift counterattack from Leverkusen resulted in Jeremie Frimpong scoring their fourth goal. Despite efforts at damage control, Frankfurt conceded another penalty, converted by Victor Boniface, sealing their fate. With two games remaining, Frankfurt must secure a win to secure a top-six finish.

Bayer Leverkusen has equaled Benfica’s 59-year European record for the longest unbeaten run in all competitions. Their next opportunity to make history comes in their upcoming match against Roma on Thursday.
