Brazilian Star Stuns Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna In WTT Finals

Nigerian professional Tennis player, Quadri Aruna, has been defeated by his Brazilian counterpart, Hugo Calderano, in the World Table Tennis (WTT) finals in Doha 2023, played in Qatar.

The development, however, has turned things around for Nigeria to emerge as the world’s number five in the WTT Finals.

As in their previous meetings, the Brazilian star leads 2-0 (11-7, 11-2) with the motive to win Aruna in the third Game.

The African champion intimidated the South American champion supporters with an 11-9 win in the third game, narrowing the gap to 2-1.
Aruna continued from where he stopped with a 12-10 win elevating to a draw (2-2).

In the fifth game, where it will be decided who won was in favour of Aruna with a start lead of 8-4, but South American later drew it 8-8.

He led by 9-8, 10-8, until Aruna got magic back to 10-8 through his shots to Calderano in the fifth game, which was his first victory against the American star.

He showed the fact that he was very happy as it ended in praise. Nigerian coach, Tunisia’s Hachmi praised him and was a thing of support to him as he said that he believed in him because he knew actually he would make a difference.

Aruna secured a win in the $340,000 prize money tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals and a rematch against world number one Fan Zhendong on January 4. Aruna expressed confidence in giving his best tomorrow and emphasized the importance of enjoying the match.
