Walter Mazzarri is about to be sacked as Napoli’s head coach, SportXparte learnt.

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Mazzarri is likely to leave Napoli before the club’s UEFA Champions League match against Barcelona.

Recall that Mazzarri took Napoli job after Rudi Garcia left in October.

Slovakia head coach Francesco Calzona will replace Mazzarri with immediate effect, deal being finalized.

Calzona will lead Napoli in the first-leg match against Barcelona this Wednesday.

After guiding Slovakia to Euro 2024, Calzona faces a challenging task as he returns to Napoli, where he previously served as an assistant during Luciano Spalletti’s first season without any trophies.

Calzona is expected to continue his role with Slovakia and is rumored to bring Marek Hamsik, Napoli’s all-time appearance leader, who also surpassed Diego Maradona’s scoring record for the club.

Following their historic third Scudetto last season, Napoli has struggled since Spalletti’s departure, trailing league leaders Inter Milan by 27 points. With only four wins in 12 matches under Mazzarri, Napoli has collected 15 points.

The likelihood of Napoli securing a top-four finish and qualifying for the revamped Champions League next season is very slim, even if Italy secures a fifth spot.
