Chelsea Parted Ways With Mauricio Pochettino On Mutual Agreement

British media has reported that Mauricio Pochettino has departed from his position as the Chelsea manager following a mutual agreement, after just one season at the helm of the Premier League club.

Ahead of the 2023/24 season, Mauricio Pochettino took over as Chelsea’s manager, stepping in for interim manager Frank Lampard. The club’s new owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, sought to rejuvenate Stamford Bridge after finishing 12th in the previous campaign.

Despite a poor start to the season that saw Chelsea languishing in the bottom half of the standings, despite being the highest spenders among all clubs in Europe, Mauricio Pochettino succeeded in leading the London club to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

In a statement on the club’s website, Pochettino was quoted saying: “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history. The Club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”

Despite widespread speculation suggesting that the former Paris St Germain and Tottenham Hotspur manager would be departing after only a year at the club, Mauricio Pochettino chose to stay quiet about his future when questioned following Chelsea’s final game of the season on Sunday.

Chelsea’s Sporting Directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said in the club’s statement: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea, we would like to express our gratitude to Mauricio for his service this season. He will be welcome back to Stamford Bridge any time and we wish him all the very best in his future coaching career.”
