Chelsea Signs Pedro Neto From Wolves
Chelsea have signed Pedro Neto from Wolves on a seven-year contract for a fee of £54m.
The Portugal international joins Enzo Maresca a week before their Premier League opener against Manchester City next Sunday.
The 24-year-old began his senior career at Braga and spent two years loan at Lazio starting from the age of 17.
However, it was his 2019 transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers as a teenager that propelled his career.
During his time at the West Midlands club, Neto made 135 appearances, contributing to their seventh-place finish in the Premier League and their progression to the quarter-finals of the Europa in his debut season.
Neto spent five seasons at Molineux, the winger scoring two goals and providing nine assists in 20 league appearances last term. He has 10 caps for his country and scored one goal.
Neto would’ve played more if it wasn’t for a long-term knee injury and several other significant layoffs. He overcame a hamstring problem at the very end of last season, in time to be selected for Portugal’s Euro 2024 squad over the summer.
He told Chelsea’s website: “I feel grateful to have joined this club. I have worked hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt.”
The 24-year-old was unveiled at Stamford Bridge at half-time during Chelsea’s final pre-season match, against Inter.
Neto is expected to start training with his new teammates in the coming days, which may put him in contention when the Blues kick off their 2024/25 Premier League campaign by hosting reigning champions Manchester City on August 18.
