Conor Gallagher: Atletico Madrid Holds Talks With Chelsea
Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Atletico Madrid over the transfer of Conor Gallagher but the midfielder’s future is in his own hands.
The England star’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2025, and with the new season set to begin next month, there have been no indications of a new deal for the fan favorite among Chelsea supporters.
The hierarchy at Chelsea has been open to selling Gallagher for some time and it looks like this summer could be the end of the road for the 24-year-old at Chelsea having spent his entire career with the Premier League team.
Gallagher played a crucial role in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad last season, featuring in 50 matches for Chelsea and contributing seven goals and nine assists in all.
This achievement secured the 24-year-old a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024. However, it appears he has not done enough to justify a new contract from the club’s board.
This news is likely to disappoint Chelsea fans, as the midfielder enjoys a strong following at the Stamford Bridge fans after progressing through the Chelsea’s academy system.
Gallagher looks set for a new challenge in his career this season but it will ultimately come down to the player.
Chelsea and Atletico Madrid close to agreeing on fee
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are close to reaching an agreement for the sale of Gallagher and it is expected to be around €35m/€40m with add-ons included.
This sale would be a significant boost for Chelsea in terms of profit and sustainability, as it would be recorded as pure profit considering the midfielder is a homegrown talent.
However, the deal depends on the 24-year-old and if the England international doesn’t fancy a move then it is off.
It remains unclear whether Gallagher is willing to embrace a new experience in Spain, but this will likely be clarified in the coming days, as it appears that fans of the London club may soon witness one of their favorites leave Stamford Bridge.
