EPL: Ivan Toney Has Big Ego, Won’t Last-Long At Arsenal – Rio Ferdinand
Former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand recently made a bold claim about Ivan Toney’s potential transfer to Arsenal.
Speaking during a recent podcast, Ferdinand believes Toney, who currently plays for Brentford, won’t last long at Arsenal if he joins the English Premier League top club.
The concern stems from Toney’s potential to have a “huge ego” if he moves to a bigger club.
Ferdinand acknowledges the playful remarks made by Toney regarding his future but cautions him to show respect and recognize his position at Arsenal.
This cautionary statement follows reports of Arsenal’s pursuit of Toney in January, which unfortunately did not materialize due to Brentford’s steep asking price.
Nevertheless, it is uncertain what lies ahead for Toney, and his ability to adjust to a bigger club with a potentially altered environment is yet to be determined.
There are expectations that Arsenal will return at the end of this season for the player, with Brentford boss, Thomas Frank admitting Toney will likely move on.
Ferdinand’s remark on the 27-year-old player reads: “I don’t think he would move like that [with a big ego]. I would be surprised. Remember, he has never played for a big club.
“He’s going to go there and he will have to be respectful and know where he is in the pecking order.
“There are some big players there. Do you think he is going to come with that chat about Mikel Arteta when you have Declan Rice, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus?” Ferdinand said on his podcast.
SportXparte reports that Toney has been in excellent form for Brentford, scoring goals and showing leadership qualities.
He has publicly expressed his desire to play for a bigger club, with Arsenal potentially being his preferred destination.
Arsenal are reportedly still interested in him, but they face competition from other Premier League clubs.
It will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds in the coming months. Will Toney make the move to Arsenal? And if so, can he live up to Ferdinand’s expectations and thrive in a more demanding environment?
