EPL: Man United Sets To Sign £55 Million Bayern Munich Star

According to a recent report from Football Transfers, Manchester United is said to be leading the race to sign Matthijs De Ligt in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The report suggests that the 24-year-old Bayern Munich defender is a top contender to leave the Bundesliga at the end of the season.

De Ligt, who is currently falling down Thomas Tuchel’s pecking order, has found his playing time limited due to the German coach’s preference for a centre-back pairing of Dayot Upamecano and summer-signing Kim Min-jae.

SportXparte reports that with Bayern struggling to keep up with unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen, it appears that changes are imminent at the Allianz Arena, and De Ligt’s potential exit could be one of the first major shake-ups.

Although Erik Ten Hag was not the manager of Manchester United when the English Premier League club initially attempted to sign the Dutch defender in 2019, he is well acquainted with De Ligt after awarding him 80 appearances during their time together at Ajax.

Currently valued at £55 million (TM), the 24-year-old, whose deal expires in 2027, will not come cheap to United but, given his reputation as one of the sports’ best centre-backs, would send a huge signal of intent to the rest of Europe.

Since joining the Bavarians 18 months ago, De Ligt, who has represented the Netherlands on 43 occasions, has scored five goals in 59 games in all competitions.
