Tottenham Hotspur has made a significant move in the football world by finalizing the acquisition of Leeds United midfielder, Archie Gray.

Tottenham Hotspur, in a strategic move, on Tuesday, July 2, agreed to pay Leeds United £30 million to secure the services of Archie Gray, while Leeds United paid Spurs £10 million to secure the signing of defender Joe Rodon in a separate transaction.

Joe Rodon, the Wales international who spent the previous season on loan at Leeds from Spurs, signed a four-year contract with the EFL Championship team.

Meanwhile, Tottenham managed to secure the transfer of Archie Gray by activating his release clause.

SportXparte reports that this clause, a common feature in football contracts, allows the midfielder to join another club if Leeds United do not achieve promotion to the Premier League in their first attempt.

Spurs outbid Brentford for Gray’s signature, offering the 18-year-old Englishman a six-year contract that will see him remain at the club until June 30, 2030.

A statement from Leeds United read in part: “Whilst we understand that supporters will be hugely disappointed to lose such a homegrown talent, and a family name so synonymous with Leeds United, the move improves the club’s chance to compete for automatic promotion next season by increasing our ability to build a competitive squad within the league’s financial control regulations.

“Everyone at Leeds United is heartbroken to see one of our depart and would like to thank Archie for all his efforts and professionalism.”

Archie Gray featured in 52 matches for Leeds United in the previous season, showcasing his versatility by playing both as a midfielder and a right-back.
