Erik ten Hag Sends Warning To Antony About His Manchester United Future

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has warned Antony that he has to fight for his place in the lineup after falling down the Old Trafford pecking order.

During his first transfer window at Manchester United, Ten Hag made a determined effort to sign Antony from his previous club, Ajax, ultimately securing the Brazilian for an initial fee of £82M.

But the 24-year-old is currently on his way to becoming one of the worst value-for-money signings in Premier League history, registering only 11 goals and five assists in 83 matches for United across all competitions.

Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho have predominantly been chosen for the right wing this season.

While Ten Hag has typically supported Antony, he took a slightly different stance during a press conference before Tuesday’s Carabao match against Barnsley.

“He’s impatient, he wants to play,” Ten Hag said of Antony. “But in top football there are laws. You pick the team that has the most chance to win the game, the one with the best dynamic and the best chemistry. Players have to fight for their positions.

“The other players are doing so well they’re contributing. He has to get over them. He has to earn the right in training.”

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News reports that Amad will be offered a new contract by United in the coming months.

The Ivorian’s current deal at Old Trafford runs until 2025, and though the club has the option to extend this by a further 12 months, they want to tie him down for the long term.
