Ex-Liverpool Coach, Jurgen Klopp Speaks On Managing England Team
Again, former Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has rejected a managerial job as he confirmed his withdrawal from consideration for the position of England manager.
It is worth noting that England commenced a search for a new manager following Gareth Southgate‘s departure.
At the age of 57, Klopp was initially seen as a candidate for the role left vacant by Southgate, following England’s Euro 2024 final defeat by Spain.
However, he has since clarified that he is no longer involved in the speculation surrounding the vacancy.
Klopp’s Verdict On England’s Job
Speaking at the International Coaches’ Congress in Wurzburg, Klopp said when asked if there were any offers on the table: “At the moment, there is nothing at all in terms of jobs. No club, no country.
“A few people must not have heard this part. And it would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if you said, ‘I’ll make an exception for you now’.
“I’m going to do some work. I’m too young to only do padel tennis and grandchildren. Will that be the coach again? I would actually rule that out at the moment.
“Let’s see what it will look like in a few months. Nothing is coming through at the moment.”
Klopp departed from his position at Liverpool at the conclusion of the previous season, marking the end of a highly successful tenure of nine years. He cited a depletion of energy as the primary reason for his departure.
Despite his exit, some bookmakers still assign him odds as low as 6/1, with the expectation that he could potentially replace Southgate as the next Football Association-appointed manager.
Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle, reaffirmed his dedication to the club on Tuesday, stating that he was “fully committed” to the Magpies.
Additionally, Graham Potter, his former colleague at Brighton and Chelsea, and Lee Carsley, the manager of the England Under-21s, remain key contenders in the betting market.
Southgate stepped down from his role after leading the team for eight years, during which he successfully led the team to two European Championship finals and a semi-final in the World Cup in 2018.
Klopp Hopes To Return To Football Scene Soon
While Klopp has not expressed interest in returning to the managerial role, he has indicated that he is open to the possibility of rejoining the football scene in the future.
He said: “As of today, that’s it for me as a coach. I didn’t quit on a whim, but it was a general decision. I’ve also coached the best clubs in the world.
“Maybe we can talk about it again in a few months. I still want to work in football and help people with my experience and contacts. Let’s see what else there is for me.”
