Ex-Man United Player, Jesse Lingard Joins South Korean Club
English professional footballer and former Manchester United midfielder, Jesse Lingard, has finally found a new football club in South Korea.
After being without a club for more than half a year, Lingard has now eventually signed South Korean club, FC Seoul on a two-year deal.
The 31-year-old player, who emerged from the Manchester United football academy, began his professional career on loan at Leicester City on November 6, 2012.
Following that, Lingard had loan spells at Birmingham and Brighton in 2013 and 2014, respectively, before officially joining Manchester United’s senior team on July 1, 2014.
Due to limited playing time, Lingard was loaned to Derby County on February 2, 2015, but he returned to Manchester United on May 31, 2015.
After approximately six years, he made the decision to embark on a six-month loan at West Ham United, with the intention of returning to United and competing for a starting position at Old Trafford for the 2020-2021 season.
Regrettably, Lingard was unable to secure a spot in the Red Devils’ starting lineup and ultimately had to depart the club permanently. He signed a one-year contract with Nottingham Forest.
Jesse Lingard’s career took a downturn after a year of struggling with fitness issues, resulting in limited playing time. As a result, he failed to make a lasting impression and had to part ways with his previous club on July 1, 2023.
Since then, Lingard has been without a team, but he utilized his time by training with West Ham and later with Al-Ettifaq, a Saudi Pro League club. Unfortunately, Al-Ettifaq couldn’t secure his signature due to exceeding the limit of foreign players they were allowed to sign.
However, in an exciting update earlier today, February 8, Lingard took to his Instagram page to announce his new venture.
He confirmed that he has signed a two-year contract with FC Seoul, a prominent South Korean club. This move marks a fresh start for Lingard as he embarks on a new chapter in his football career.
The Englishman wrote: “New beginnings 🙏🏾 So excited to finally get back on the pitch and do what I love the most ⚽️ im so grateful for the love and support in Korea ❤️🇰🇷 @fcseoul.”
Lingard is projected to receive approximately £17,500 per week during his two-year tenure in South Korea, resulting in an annual income of £910,000.
This figure is significantly lower than the reported £100,000 per week he was earning while at Manchester United.
