French Striker Olivier Giroud Joins Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC)

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has decided to join Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) as a designated player from mid-July until December 2025. This move comes after weeks of negotiations, with Giroud opting for a new challenge in Major League Soccer despite receiving offers from Saudi Arabia and other European clubs.

Giroud, the veteran at 37, brings a depth of experience and a proven goal-scoring record to LAFC. With 13 goals and 8 assists in 30 Serie A games for Milan this season and is still part of Didier Deschamps’ France squad. Giroud owns the record for the most goals scored for the French national team 57 goals in 131 caps. Giroud remains a potent attacking threat on the field. His decision to join LAFC was solidified during a meeting with LAFC co-president John Thorrington in Milan, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his career.

The French striker will reunite with his compatriot and 2018 World Cup-winning teammate Hugo Lloris at LAFC, adding a familiar connection to his new environment. Giroud’s impressive career trajectory spans various leagues, starting from the National (3rd division) in France to Ligue 1, the Premier League in England with time at Arsenal and Chelsea, and now Serie A with AC Milan.

After transitioning to the Premier League in England, he commenced his journey with Arsenal, securing three FA Cups. Subsequently, he transferred to Chelsea, where he triumphed in the Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup. In 2021, he made a move to Milan and clinched the Serie A title in his debut season. Throughout his extensive career of nearly 700 league and cup matches, Gir has consistently delivered as a goal scorer, tallying 276 goals.

Giroud played a pivotal role in France’s victorious 2018 World Cup campaign, featuring in all seven matches. Additionally, he displayed his talents at two other World Cups and three European Championships while representing the French national team.

 

LAFC, the 2022 MLS champion, is set to benefit from Giroud’s experience and goal-scoring ability as they aim to build on their recent successes in the league. With two designated player spots open, the addition of Giroud adds depth and quality to the team’s attacking lineup, alongside players like Denis Bouanga, the 2023 MLS Golden Boot winner.
