Lionel Messi’s present fitness state has been clarified by Inter Miami’s head coach, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, who also suggests that the football legend should be back in training before their match on Wednesday against Chicago FC.

Since his last appearance against Toronto FC on September 20, Lionel Messi has been noticeably absent from the last three games. Despite playing in the first half of that match, Messi exited the pitch in pain and went straight to the locker room.

He skipped training after that game but has since made a limited comeback, working out separately from the team.

Prior to Matchday 36, Martino told the media, “He should be training… Both today and tomorrow are possible. The fact is, a game is tomorrow. Perhaps he participates in the warm-up portion of training, but only because the caliber of the training is in question.”

The coach was unable to give a specific comeback date for Messi, citing muscle exhaustion brought on by scar tissue from an earlier injury as the reason for his absence.

Martino continued, “I would say ‘one month’ if I knew it was one month,” highlighting his hesitation to make a hasty diagnosis. “I appreciate your need for precise times, but if I had them, I would share them. But I also don’t have them.”

Messi joined Inter Miami in July and was a key contributor in the starting lineup for the League Cup competition. Messi won the trophy for the Herons after an amazing seven-game run that ended in a penalty shootout triumph over Nashville SC.

Messi was initially successful, but Inter Miami’s play has suffered as a result of his recent absence. In the US Open Cup final, they lost 1-2 to the Houston Dynamo, and in MLS regular season play, they managed two draws.
