Ghana Reappoints Otto Addo As New Head Coach
Ghana has re-appointed Otto Addo as their new coach following the departure of Chris Hughton after a disappointing first-round exit at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the Ivory Coast earlier this year.
The 48-year-old Addo is set to officially take over the team in May but will lead the team in friendlies against Nigeria and_ Uganda in Morocco this month, building on his experience of guiding Ghana at the World Cup in Qatar.
Addo’s role as a talent scout for Borussia Dortmund has been put on hold. The German club has agreed to release him from his contract and allow him to lead the national team full-time.
His appointment comes after a thorough selection process, with Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku praising Addo’s exceptional performance during the interview process and_ his high rating by’ the search committee.
“I’ve already gained a lot of experience in my role as interim coach (in 2022) and_ I’m looking forward to the task that lies ahead of me,” Addo said, expressing his readiness for the challenges ahead.
Having previously served as the interim coach in 2022 when he took over from Milovan Rajevac, Addo brings great experience to the role. Despite a challenging World Cup that saw Ghana finish at the bottom of their group after a victory against South Korea, Addo remained determined and_ eager for the team to succeed in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
