The 2023-2024 La Liga season ended on a high note for Girona as they delivered a commanding 7-0 victory over Granada at the Estadi Montilivi.

It was a match filled with standout performances and memorable moments. The game kicked off with Eric Garcia, on loan from Barcelona, opening the scoring with a well-executed header from a corner. Girona continued to dominate, with Viktor Tsyhankov doubling the lead just minutes later after a brilliant play orchestrated by Portu and Miguel Gutierrez.

As the first half drew to a close, Daley Blind’s incisive play set up Portu for a penalty, which Artem Dovbyk coolly converted, inching closer to the league’s top scorer, Alexander Sorloth. Girona’s attacking flair was relentless, with Savio and Tsyhankov adding to the tally, further solidifying their dominance on the pitch.

The match took a turn for the worse for Granada as Facundo Pellistri received a second yellow card, leaving them with 10 men on the field. Girona capitalized on this advantage, with Dovbyk leveling the top scorer race with Sorloth and setting up Cristhian Stuani for another goal.

In the dying minutes of the game, Dovbyk secured his lead in the Pichichi race by converting a penalty, scoring his 24th goal of the season. The victory highlighted Girona’s attacking quality and also showcased their ability to finish the season on a high note, despite falling short in the title race.

This triumph marked a significant milestone for Girona, who are embarking on their debut Champions League campaign in only their fourth season in the Spanish top flight.
