Inter Milan Secure Last-Gasp Victory Against Udinese
Udinese’s Serie A survival hopes were dealt a severe blow as Inter Milan snatched a dramatic 2-1 victory courtesy of Davide Frattesi’s 95th-minute strike at the Dacia Arena.
Despite Inter’s comfortable 14-point lead at the top of the Serie A table, the stakes were high as they aimed to keep their dream of clinching the title alive, setting up a potential title decider against city rivals AC Milan in the coming weeks.
The game got off to a slow start, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. However, the momentum shifted when Lazar Samardzic’s fortuitous cross found its way into the net after a mix-up between Udinese’s goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, & defender Denzel Dumfries. The hosts took a surprise lead, much to the dismay of the Inter contingent.
Inter’s response was swift, as Carlos Augusto appeared to have equalized shortly after the restart, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside following a VAR review. However, Udinese’s lead was short-lived, as a penalty was awarded to Inter after Marcus Thuram was fouled in the box. Hakan Calhanoglu made no mistake from the spot, leveling the score & setting the stage for a tense finale.
As the clock ticked towards full time, Inter piled on the pressure in search of a winner. Despite their dominance in possession, clear-cut chances were hard to come by’, with Frattesi squandering a golden opportunity from close range. However, in the dying moments of the game, Lautaro Martinez’s effort struck the post before Frattesi pounced on the rebound to secure a vital victory for Inter.
The result leaves Udinese facing an uphill battle in their fight for Serie A survival, while Inter’s title aspirations remain firmly intact.
