Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp received a big boost this week with the return of four key players who have returned to training ahead of the crucial Europa League quarter-final first leg against Atalanta.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, Alisson, & Stefan Bajcetic are all close to full fitness, providing Klopp with much-needed options as Liverpool continue to compete in both the Europa League & the Premier League title race.

Klopp emphasized the importance of not rushing the players back, highlighting the need for them to be in the best possible shape and rhythm before being reintegrated into the squad. Alexander-Arnold & Jota, in particular, have been training together for a couple of weeks & are showing positive signs of progress.

“We didn’t rush it with them,” Klopp told reporters. “Trent and Jota have been training together a lot for a couple of weeks. They did a lot of training but they were doing very well yesterday”.

“We will see how they go but they are back in training and we have to see how we use them. Yes, we need them back but we need them in the best possible shape & we need them in rhythm,” Klopp said.

Liverpool, who are currently level on points with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table, are eager to secure another silverware this season. Despite a recent setback in the league with a 2-2 draw against Manchester United, midfielder Harvey Elliott expressed the team’s determination to bounce back and focus on the upcoming challenges.

“The good thing about football is we’ve got another game to focus on,” Elliott said. “With the gaffer leaving at the end of the season, winning [the Europa League] would be the best possible way for that to end. We as players will be doing everything we can for that to happen & we want to give everything back to him.”

The prospect of winning the Europa League holds special significance for Liverpool players, as it would serve as a fitting farewell gift to Klopp in his last season with the club.

Looking ahead, Liverpool faces Atalanta in the Europa League before hosting Crystal Palace in the league. Klopp remains confident in managing the fixture congestion, emphasizing the importance of strategic planning, analysis, & team meetings to navigate through the busy schedule effectively.

“We didn’t have this last year because we were knocked out of Europe pretty quickly but other than that, it’s a pretty standard situation for us,” Klopp said. “It’s not much about training, it’s about meetings and analysis & that kind of thing.”

Jurgen Klopp anticipates a challenging encounter against Atalanta, led by’ the experienced Gian Piero Gasperini, acknowledging that they will present difficulties for Liverpool.

“There are now only great teams left in the competition,” Klopp said. “It’s outstanding & we know what Atalanta is all about. Gasperini has been doing an incredible job there for years and years and it’s difficult to play against Italian teams, always was”.

“Tactically they’re super disciplined & super dangerous in a lot of areas, so we have to be at our best to get into the next round over these two legs.”
