LeBron James Signs New Contract With Lakers
American professional basketball player, LeBron James, has agreed to a new two-year, $104 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to multiple reports from the US on Wednesday, the NBA superstar, who will be turning 40 in December, decided to opt out of his previous deal with the team last week, a move that analysts believe will provide more financial flexibility to bring in new players.
It was widely anticipated that James would re-sign with the Lakers, especially after the team selected his eldest son, Bronny James, in the recent draft.
James has expressed his ambition to play alongside his son in the NBA.
Reports from ESPN and The Athletic indicate that his new contract includes a no-trade clause, preventing him from being traded to another team without his approval.
As the league’s all-time leading scorer and a four-time NBA champion, James will be entering his 22nd season in 2024-2025.
While he led the Lakers to an NBA title in 2020, the team has faced challenges in returning to championship contention.
This season, the Lakers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Following the departure of Darvin Ham, the Lakers named James’ podcast co-host and TV commentator J.J. Redick as the new head coach last month.
