In a recent interview on the Big Time podcast, Lionel Messi, currently playing for Inter Miami, shared insights into his career, aspirations, & contemplations on retirement.

Messi’s reflection on his illustrious career reveals a deep sense of gratitude & contentment: “On a sporting level I was lucky enough to be able to achieve all my dreams & the truth is that I can’t ask for more.” This acknowledgment of fulfillment emphasizes his remarkable journey in football & the profound impact it has had on his life, both professionally & personally.

Grateful for the opportunities bestowed upon him, Messi expressed appreciation for the support from his loved ones and the joy he finds in his craft: ” Thank God he gave me so much on a professional & human level, as well as with my family, & my friends. I try to enjoy everything God has given me so far, which is a lot. “I know that the moment I feel that I am no longer ready to perform, that I am no longer enjoying myself or helping my team-mates. I’m very self-critical of myself, I know when I’m good, when I’m bad, when I’m playing well, & when I’m playing badly”.

The Argentine maestro’s self-awareness shines through as he discusses the potential timing of his retirement: “When I feel it’s time to take that step, I will take it without thinking about age. If I feel good I will always try to continue competing because that’s what I like & what I know how to do. “However, Messi pointed out that he hasn’t given much thought to hanging up his boots just yet.”I haven’t thought about it yet, at the moment I try to enjoy the day-to-day, the moments, without thinking about the future,” said Messi. “I don’t have anything clear yet, I hope to continue playing for a while longer, which is what I like”.

“When the time comes I will surely find my way to what fulfills me and what I like and a new role. “As for the Argentina national team, Messi said “Winning the World Cup was magical for us, our families, & the whole country, it will stay with us for the rest of our lives. I would probably have left the national team if we didn’t win the World Cup, but luckily it happened & we gave Argentina another title,” he said.

Messi also talked about his exit from Barcelona, which he followed up by joining PSG. “It was difficult to leave for PSG because I was doing very well in Barcelona & I was thinking of staying there. I wasn’t ready to leave, it all happened very quickly, I had to rebuild my life from one day to the next,” he said.
