Lionel Messi Sends 8th Ballon d’Or To Barcelona Museum
In a gesture that represents loyalty, humility and, a deep-rooted connection to his footballing roots, Lionel Messi, the Goat of the beautiful game, has gifted his 8th Ballon d’Or to Barcelona’s museum, Sportxparte reports.
This act also solidifies his legacy at the Catalan club and also shows his unwavering bond with the city, the club, and its loyal fans.
While Messi may have achieved his 8th Ballon d’Or glory during his tenure at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a period where he wore the colours of the French giants, his decision to have this prestigious accolade displayed alongside the other seven at Barcelona’s museum speaks volumes about his respect and gratitude towards the club where he started his glorious career.
It could be recalled that the Argentine legend left Barcelona in 2021 and joined PSG as a free agent.
Following two seasons in France, Messi opted to pursue a new challenge in Major League Soccer last year.
After leading Argentina to a World Cup victory in Qatar 2022, Messi was awarded his eighth Ballon d’Or in 2023. Additionally, he guided Inter Miami to Leagues Cup success, solidifying his status as the most decorated player in history with 44 major titles.
Despite his move to the United States, Messi’s emotional and professional connection to Barcelona remains unbreakable. As he once stated, “Everything I own is in Barcelona, there at the museum. Ballons d’Or, Golden Boots, everything.”
