Manchester City is currently working on deals to sign Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov this month.

There are no agreements in place for either player yet but discussions are advancing as City intensify their efforts to recruit both.

Egyptian international Marmoush has had a breakout season with Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 13 goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances, which has attracted the attention of several top clubs across Europe.

Khusanov, the 20-year-old Lens center-back, has attracted interest from elsewhere, with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur aware of his talent and availability.

Marmoush joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Wolfsburg in 2023 and has made an impressive impact this season, featuring in 24 matches across all competitions.

He has contributed significantly to the team’s success, with 18 goals and 12 assists to his name.

He made his senior Egypt debut in 2021 and has been capped 35 times at international level.

Manchester City has faced several defensive injuries this season, which have hindered their quest to defend their Premier League title. Key players such as Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake, and Manuel Akanji have all spent time on the sidelines, impacting the team’s performance.

Central defender Khusanov joined Lens from Belarusian Energetik-BGU Minsk in the summer of 2023. In his first season, the Uzbekistan international made 16 appearances in all competitions for Lens.

However, this campaign Khusanov has established himself as a mainstay in the French side’s starting XI, missing just two of Lens’ 18 Ligue 1 games because of a two-game suspension due to a red card in November.

Why City needs Omar Marmoush Services

The club is also still looking for a replacement for Julián Álvarez, who joined Atlético Madrid in the summer. City has missed Alvarez’s goals. He scored 19 last season, and Marmoush would take some of the responsibility off the shoulders of Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian has scored 16 Premier League goals this season, with City’s next-highest league goalscorer, Josko Gvardiol, on four.

Typically, the most gifted Egyptian players are quickly acquired by one of the nation’s two largest clubs, El Zamalek or Al Ahly, particularly if they have an astonishing record of 44 goals in 28 games within the Egyptian youth system at the age of 17.

However, Marmoush has chosen a different trajectory for his career.

His impressive performances in Wadi Degla’s youth teams caught the eyes of the first team’s head coach, Patrice Carteron, who gave him his debut in the last game of the 2015-16 season, where Marmoush assisted the winner.

Following another season with Degla, the Egyptian made the move to Germany in 2017 after accepting an offer from Wolfsburg.

Although Marmoush faced challenges adapting to his new environment, particularly due to the language barrier, his experience with Wolfsburg’s reserve team played a crucial role in shaping his development and strengthening his mental resilience.

During his early months in Germany, he did not even know how to order coffee. Marmoush would stand on the side and wait until a similar order came up, before signaling to the waiter that he wanted the same.

After spending a year and a half on loan to St Pauli and Stuttgart, Marmoush established himself in Wolfsburg’s senior team in the 2022-23 campaign.

In Degla’s youth teams, Marmoush honed his skills as a striker, a position where he now feels at home as Frankfurt’s center-forward.

After joining the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, he made an immediate impact by scoring 17 goals in his first year. This season, he is poised to easily surpass that tally.
