After 18 months, Atletico Madrid, and Memphis Depay will go their separate ways, with the Dutch player becoming a free agent this summer.

As part of Atletico’s summer clearout, the Dutch player is among those set to depart, and according to Fabrizio Romano, there will be no automatic extension of his 18-month contract. Initially, it was agreed that he would stay on until 2025.

Barcelona was reported to have a 50% sell-on clause on the 30-year-old, but they seem to lose out on any earnings as Memphis departs for free. He is now free to join any team he desires. Signed for €3m in January 2023, despite showing promise in some appearances, he never managed to secure a regular spot in the team.

Injuries have restricted Memphis to only 1,202 minutes of play, but he has managed to score nine goals and provide two assists, showcasing a solid goal contribution-to-minutes ratio. Overall, Memphis has scored 13 goals and provided two assists in 40 appearances.

While he has had memorable moments against Granada and Inter in the Champions League, Diego Simeone has grown increasingly disillusioned with his limited availability. Earlier reports this season suggested disagreements between him and Atletico regarding his conditioning.
