Napoli have completed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay for a fee believed to be in around the region of €30m (£25.4m).

McTominay has departed from United after spending 22 years in the club, progressing through the youth ranks and establishing himself in the senior team

The 27-year-old went on to make 255 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 29 goals in that time, but has brought down the curtain on his time at Old Trafford.

In his final season at United, McTominay accumulated 10 goals. Only Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund registered more and proved to be an important player for manager Erik Ten Hag, filling in as both a midfielder and an attacker.

However, as United seeks to move away from the open style of play that characterized their 2023/24 season, they couldn’t guarantee McTominay consistent game time. Consequently, he has now transferred to Napoli, finalizing his contract just before Friday’s transfer deadline.

McTominay becomes one of Napoli’s key signings in a summer transfer window that has lingered on after a notably disappointing season, during which they finished tenth in Serie A.

New head coach, Antonio Conte, has publicly bemoaned the club’s standards and is hoping to revive their on-field fortunes after a forgettable defense of their Scudetto.
