Newcastle United faces a double injury blow following their recent Champions League defeat against AC Milan.

Manager Eddie Howe confirmed that both Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon suffered injuries during the 2-1 loss.

The Magpies’ hopes for Champions League progression were dashed after conceding two second-half goals despite Joelinton’s opener. This defeat means they’re entirely out of European contention, shifting their focus back to the Premier League, starting with a clash against Fulham at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Trippier, serving a one-match suspension due to accumulated yellow cards, will also miss the Fulham fixture and is under assessment by the medical team, alongside Gordon, who was substituted in the 62nd minute against Milan.

Addressing Trippier’s injury, Howe mentioned, “He seemed to pick up something in the first half, and although he wanted to continue initially, he signalled at halftime that he couldn’t carry on.”

Regarding Gordon’s situation, Howe remarked, “He felt an awareness in his hamstring during the game. It’s not confirmed as an injury yet, but it did impact his performance, especially in terms of sprinting.”

Sitting seventh in the Premier League, Newcastle aims to bounce back from a string of three consecutive losses. However, their upcoming fixtures against Fulham and a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Chelsea pose substantial challenges.

Speaking about the upcoming matches, Howe acknowledged the demanding schedule, saying, “The games keep coming, and we have to be ready for Fulham’s challenge. It won’t be an easy game, especially after our recent result. Then, facing Chelsea adds to the intensity, but we’re trying to approach this unrelenting season with a positive mindset.”

The Magpies understand the urgency to regroup swiftly, aiming to overcome their injury setbacks and resume their winning ways in the league and cup competitions.
