ITA Suspends Nigerian Boxer
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the International Testing Agency (ITA) announced that it has temporarily suspended Nigerian lightweight boxer, Cynthia Ogunsemilore, following a positive drug test for a prohibited substance.
This suspension was issued prior to her anticipated debut at the Paris Olympics.
Ogunsemilore was found to have elevated levels of furosemide, a diuretic listed as prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), in a doping control sample collected outside of competition on Thursday.
“The athlete has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended until the resolution of the matter in line with the World Anti-Doping Code and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Anti-Doping Rules,” the ITA reported on Saturday.
This implies that the athlete will be unable to take part in any competition, practice, instruction, or engagement throughout the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“The athlete has the right to challenge the imposition of the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) – Anti-Doping Division.
“The athlete also has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample,” ITA noted.
