OFFICIAL: Marseille Appoints Roberto De Zerbi As Their Manager
Former Brighton coach, Roberto De Zerbi, has officially been announced as the new manager of Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille after leaving Brighton and Hove Albion.
The tactician had already agreed on a verbal agreement with Marseille but has now officially signed a three-year contract to secure his future with the French club.
The 45-year-old achieved recognition at Sassuolo before embarking on a stint at Shakhtar Donetsk in 2021, which was disrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
De Zerbi took over at Brighton in September 2022 and led them to their first European qualification. The team progressed to the Europa League quarter-finals before being eliminated with a 4-1 aggregate score by Daniele De Rossi’s Roma.
He decided not to continue with the Seagulls this summer and is now officially the new coach of Olympique Marseille.
Legal proceedings were initiated to negotiate his contract buyout and it remains to be seen how much that cost Marseille.
They have done so successfully this time. “I am very happy to sign for Olympique de Marseille,” reacted De Zerbi. “I can’t wait to sit on the bench at the Vélodrome, this time as manager of OM, and help the club get back where Marseille deserves.”
