Phil Foden Named Premier League Player Of The Season
Phil Foden, at the age of 23, has been named the Player of the Season by EA SPORTS for the 2023/24 season.
He has played a crucial role in Manchester City’s pursuit of an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title, with the team on the brink of achieving this historic feat.
In 34 Premier League matches, Phil Foden has scored 17 goals and provided eight assists, resulting in a direct contribution to 25 goals. This impressive performance has been instrumental in Manchester City’s position at the top of the table, leading Arsenal by a narrow margin of just two points as they approach the final day of the season.
“To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of,” Foden told Man City’s official website. “The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs.”
Phil Foden, the talented England international, has showcased his versatility by featuring in central and wing positions this season. He has accumulated the second-highest number of minutes among all outfield players at Manchester City. Foden has notably filled the void left by the injured playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, who has been sidelined for over half of City’s matches.
Phil Foden is the first Englishman to be named Premier League Player of the Season since Jamie Vardy in 2015/16. And he’s the first English player to win it for Man City.
In March, Man City manager Pep Guardiola called him “the best player in the Premier League”, and if City beat West Ham United on the final day, Foden will be the youngest player ever to win six Premier League titles.
This marks the fifth consecutive season in which a Manchester City player has been awarded the EA SPORTS Player of the Season. Haaland secured the accolade in the previous season, while De Bruyne won it in 2019/20 and 2021/22, and Ruben Dias was the winner in 2020/21.
