The Best Is Yet To Come – Says Phil Foden After Winning Footballer Of The Year

If Manchester City secures their fourth consecutive Premier League title on Sunday, Phil Foden believes they will cement their place in English football history.

Pep Guardiola’s team is leading the race for a sixth English crown in seven seasons as they approach the final round of fixtures on Sunday.

With a two-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, Manchester City will claim the Premier League trophy once more by either defeating West Ham at the Etihad Stadium or if Arsenal fails to beat Everton.

Should City secure their fourth successive title, it would mark an unparalleled achievement in English top-flight history. Even the legendary Liverpool teams of the 1970s and 1980s, Alex Ferguson’s dominant Manchester United, and Arsenal’s greatest sides were unable to accomplish this remarkable feat.

England forward Foden believes it might never happen again if Manchester City get their hands on the silverware.

The Football Writers’ Association player of the year, who missed Thursday night’s ceremony in London to focus on City’s preparations, said: “It’s history and I don’t think I can ever see it being done again. It’s something the team knows, the team understands and we’re looking forward to trying to get it done.”

Foden, who has been with City since he was nine years old, hopes that his award will inspire other young players looking to succeed in the game.

“I’m so happy for people who have been on my journey, the fans who have supported me, those who have helped me and to be named for this award means a lot to me,” Foden said.

“It just shows how far I’ve come, looking at my journey, and showing it’s possible for other kids. It does feel a little bit extra special for me as a kid to come through the academy and now playing with world stars. I’m getting the rewards that I’ve worked so hard for.”

Following their triumph in the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup last season, City are now aiming to secure a double this season.

Their next challenge is the FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley on May 25, after which Foden will shift his focus to the European Championship in Germany.

“If we can win these next two finals, then go into the tournament (Euro 2024) full of confidence,” Foden said. “We’ll give everything to try and achieve success and try and do the Premier League four times which has never been done before. It would mean a lot to us.”

“I’m delighted with how I’m performing and now it’s one last push on Sunday, one more game to go to try and win the league.” He stated.
