Rio Ferdinand, a legendary figure at Manchester United, has pointed out that Manchester City should be wary of Arsenal’s potential as the Gunners currently lead the Premier League standings, six points ahead of City, who slipped to fourth after a recent 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.

Amid City’s four-game winless streak and their descent down the table, Ferdinand emphasized that Pep Guardiola’s side should keep a keen eye on Arsenal. Despite not yet reaching the performance levels they displayed last season, Arsenal’s position at the top of the league table signals their threat, according to Ferdinand.

Ferdinand commented, “I don’t actually think Arsenal have hit the heights of their performances from last season yet. But look at where they are; they haven’t consistently played as well as we’ve seen them, and yet they’re leading the league.”

He continued, highlighting Arsenal as a significant challenge for City: “They’re a problem. They’re going to be a problem. If I’m City, I’m looking at them and thinking, ‘This team means business. We can’t afford slip-ups like the one against Villa, because Arsenal looks relentless.’ I believe Liverpool might push forward, but they might lag behind a bit.”

Expressing a shift in his earlier prediction, Ferdinand added, “At the start of the season, I backed City to win the league… I’m not as certain now. I still think City has what it takes, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsenal ends up claiming the title.”

Ferdinand’s assessment highlights Arsenal’s unexpected rise and potential to challenge the traditional hierarchy in the Premier League, adding an intriguing dimension to the ongoing title race.
