Ruben Amorim Tipped To Succeed Jurgen Klopp As Liverpool Manager
News making the rounds is that Portuguese professional football manager and_ current coach for Sporting Lisbon, Ruben Amorim, will replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool’s manager by the end of the summer.
Sportxparte recalls that Klopp had previously declared in January his decision to resign as Liverpool manager by’ the end of the season.
Since this announcement, Liverpool has been looking for a suitable manager to succeed Klopp, who has helped the Premier League side win several trophies since joining the club.
Former Liverpool player turned coach, Xabi Alonso, has been on the list of contenders to succeed Klopp. However, during the week, news emerged that Alonso would rather remain at Bayer Leverkusen, where he is currently the head coach.
Amid mixed reactions regarding Alonso’s decision to remain with Bayer Leverkusen, Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha expressed his belief that Amorim is capable of succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Palhinha, who played under Amorim at Braga and_ Sporting CP before joining the Premier League in 2022, has witnessed firsthand the 39-year-old coach’s abilities.
Sportxparte understands that Amorim is highly respected for his achievements at Sporting, notably winning the club’s first Primeira Liga title in 19 years in 2021 and_ currently leading the team to success this season.
With Amorim being considered for various top managerial positions, including a potential role at Liverpool, Palhinha envisions his former coach excelling at the next level.
“Yes, of course, although the pressure is different,” Palhinha told O Jogo.
“When you coach a big Portuguese club, you have the pressure of the fans and_ the size of the club itself, which forces you to win. When you coach Liverpool, you have the pressure of the fans, the club and_ the whole world. The way it’s growing, I think it’s only a matter of time.
“Ruben is a very good coach, one of the best in Portugal, he’s done an excellent job since Braga. He has an in-depth knowledge of the game and_ has a close relationship with the players. The way he’s growing, he won’t be in Portugal much longer.
“It won’t be for lack of opportunities [if he doesn’t] leave Portugal. He has dreams and_ ambitions of winning another title for Sporting and_ then the future will be in his hands,” he added.
90min recently disclosed that Liverpool is considering seven potential candidates to replace Klopp.
In addition to Alonso, other serious contenders include Julian Nagelsmann, Roberto De Zerbi, and_ Ange Postecoglou. There are reservations about Amorim, who, despite being highly regarded by’ the Anfield leadership, lacks experience in one of Europe’s top five leagues. Unai Emery and_ Roger Schmidt have also been part of internal discussions.
Although Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard is not currently viewed as a viable option due to his recent struggles at Aston Villa, he could still receive an interview as a sign of respect if he expresses interest.
