Tatler Asia Announces 50% Refund To Fans After Messi Misses Hong Kong Game

Lionel Messi’s absence from a friendly match in Hong Kong has sparked controversy and_ disappointment among fans who eagerly awaited the opportunity to see the Greatest footballer of all time in action.

The event organizer, Tatler Asia, has offered a 50-percent refund to ticket holders.

On February 4, a sell-out crowd gathered at the stadium, having paid 880 Hong Kong dollars($110) for the chance to witness Messi play in an Inter Miami tour match against a Hong Kong select XI.

However, much to the dismay of fans, Messi remained sidelined due to an injury, prompting boos from the audience and_ accusations of a political snub from Frome Chinese fans.

In response to the backlash, Organiser Tatler Asia on Monday offered a 50-percent refund for “those who purchased tickets through official channels for the match”.

The decision to link the refund to a waiver of legal recourse has raised questions about accountability and_ transparency in event management. It has also drawn attention to the complexities of organizing high-profile sporting events and_ the challenges of meeting fan expectations.

Furthermore, Tatler Asia faced additional criticism for its handling of the situation, leading to the withdrawal of its application for a HK$16 million government grant to fund the event.

He stated, “those who purchased tickets through official channels for the match”.Those who want some of their money back will have to agree to terms and_ conditions that include not pursuing “proceedings before any court of law, tribunal (or) regulatory authority”.

Following the Hong Kong tour, Messi went on to play in a friendly match against Vissel Kobe in Tokyo, Japan, where he featured for 30 minutes. This development only served to intensify the disappointment felt by’ Chinese fans who felt slighted by’ Messi’s absence in Hong Kong.
