Thomas Tuchel In Advanced Talks To Become England’s Manager

England are reported to be in talks with the representatives of former Bayern Munich manager, Thomas Tuchel, as they step up their search for a new manager.

Reports of discussions with Tuchel surfaced from Germany last week, but many in the English media have downplayed these claims, insisting that no talks had occurred with any candidates for the vacant position.

However, Sky Sports News has now stated that the Football Association has reached out to those around Tuchel, who is seen as the leading candidate for the role.

The FA is reportedly intensifying its search for a new manager following England’s unexpected defeat to Greece, which was quickly followed by mixed statements from interim coach Lee Carsley regarding his interest in the role.

It is thought that Pep Guardiola has long been seen as the dream target, but despite informal contact with the Manchester City manager during the summer, there has been no progress with the Spaniard, and he is not expected to be a serious contender as stands.

Technical director John McDermott, who is overseeing the search, seeks a manager with a track record of success, which aligns well with Tuchel’s credentials.

The German won numerous titles with Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, including the Champions League trophy during his tenure with the Blues.

There is still a lot of work to be done in talks with Tuchel, including the vast majority of personal terms, but his immediate availability means an agreement could be sealed relatively quickly.

Eddie Howe and Graham Potter have been the leading English candidates. Howe is focused on his work at Newcastle, where his contract has a release clause of about £5m. Potter, between jobs after leaving Chelsea in April 2023, is leaning more towards a return to club management.
