Lo Celso, who faced initial challenges settling into Spurs after joining in 2019, found respite during an 18-month loan stint at Villarreal before Ange Postecoglou took charge in the summer. The Argentine midfielder was once recommended to Barcelona’s Xavi by Lionel Messi and was reportedly on the Catalan club’s radar during the summer.
However, a potential move was halted as Postecoglou intervened, preventing Lo Celso’s exit.
