Giannis Antetokounmpo received the shock of his life when he visited Nigeria recently after his own jersey was sold to him in the market.

During his 2023 visit to Nigeria, Giannis Antetokounmpo, a Greek-Nigerian professional basketball player, was captured in a trending video purchasing a counterfeit version of his own jersey at Balogun Market in Lagos.

Sportxparte understands that this intriguing experience was featured in a recently released WhatsApp short documentary titled “Ugo: A Homecoming Story,” which quickly gained popularity and went viral on Wednesday.

The viral clip showcases the moment Giannis, accompanied by his entourage, visited Balogun market and engaged in negotiations for the fake jersey.

Unbeknownst to the trader, Giannis himself was the one bargaining for his own counterfeit merchandise.

“The guy giving me the jersey had no idea who I was.

“He knew Giannis Antetokounmpo but didn’t recognise it was me he was selling the jersey to. That was an even crazier experience,” Giannis said while recalling the experience.

Sportxparte reports that this unique encounter took place when Giannis, who was raised in Greece, made his inaugural trip to Nigeria in the company of his mother, Veronica Antetokounmpo.
