Achraf Hakimi Suffers Painful Injury After Horror Tackle Vs Bayern
Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League night against Bayern Munich turned from bad to worse after defender Achraf Hakimi suffered a worrying injury late in the first half at the Parc des Princes.
With PSG already trailing 2–0, the Moroccan right-back was attempting to push forward down the flank when he was met by a reckless, two-footed challenge from Bayern’s Luis Díaz.
The challenge appeared to catch Hakimi awkwardly on the ankle, twisting it badly. He immediately collapsed in visible pain, clutching his leg as teammates and medical staff rushed to his aid.
The 27-year-old was unable to hold back tears as he was helped off the pitch an emotional moment made even more heartbreaking given it came on his birthday.
Substituted before halftime, Hakimi looked devastated as PSG’s medical team assessed what appeared to be a serious ankle injury.
Luis Díaz, who had been Bayern’s standout performer early on, was shown a straight red card for the dangerous tackle.
The Colombian forward had earlier given Bayern a commanding lead with two goals, one in the fourth minute and another in the 32nd, before his night ended abruptly with the sending-off.
His dismissal means he will now miss Bayern’s upcoming Champions League trip to face Arsenal later this month.
Morocco is set to host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in just over a month, with Hakimi expected to captain his nation on home soil.
His potential absence would be a major blow to the Atlas Lions, who are among the favorites to lift the trophy after their historic semi-final run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
