AFCON 2025 Draw: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Placed In Pot 1

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been positioned in Pot 1 in anticipation of the draw ceremony for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) published the draw procedure on its official website on Wednesday.

As per CAF, the top-ranked nations, based on the most recent FIFA Rankings released on June 20, 2024, will be placed in Pot 1.

The Super Eagles are presently ranked as the fifth-best team on the continent.

Also included in Pot 1 are hosts Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, South Africa, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The final draw for the qualifiers will consist of 12 Groups of 4 teams (Group A to L), with the winners and runners-up from the eleven (11) groups not involving tournament hosts Morocco, earning qualification to the tournament.

The draw is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday.

The AFCON 2025 finals are set to take place between December 21, 2025, and January 18, 2026.

Meanwhile, Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, has revealed his squad for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Waldrum has included key stars such as Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Rasheedat Ajibade in the 18-player squad.

The team also boasts defenders Oluwatosin Demehin and Michelle Alozie, midfielders Deborah Abiodun, Halimatu Ayinde, Christy Ucheibe, and Toni Payne, and forwards Esther Okoronkwo, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Uchenna Kanu.

The players and their officials will leave Abuja for Sevilla, Spain, on Thursday for a two-week training tour.

The team is scheduled to depart Sevilla for France on Thursday, July 18.

The Super Falcons are drawn in Group C alongside current world champions Spain, Japan, and Brazil.
