Torsten Frank Spitller, the head coach of Rwanda’s national men’s team, has responded to the results of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying draw.

SportXparte reported earlier that Nigeria was paired in the same group D with Benin Republic, Libya and Rwanda for the AFCON 2025 draw.

It is worth noting that the AFCON draw, which determines the path to Morocco in 2025, involved 48 nations split into 12 groups of four teams each.

The leading two teams from 11 of these groups will secure direct entry to the finals, which are scheduled to begin on December 21, 2025, and end on January 18, 2026.

Reacting, however, to the AFCON 2025 Draw as done in Johannesburg on Thursday, Spitller regretted that Rwanda is placed in a challenging group alongside Nigeria.

Expressing his disappointment regarding the draw results, Spitller said: “It’s actually a little bit sad that we have two teams in the group, Nigeria and Benin, with whom we are playing in the same group in the World Cup qualifiers. But it is at it is.

The AFCON 2025 qualifiers will kick-start in September.
