‎Arsenal have completed the signing of striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting in a deal valued at up to €73.5 million.

‎The Sweden international has signed a five-year contract with the Gunners and will join his new teammates in Asia for their pre-season tour.

‎The club confirmed that Gyokeres will wear the famous number 14 shirt, immortalised by Thierry Henry.

‎The London giants will reportedly pay the Portuguese club a guaranteed €63.5 million, plus €10 million in add-ons.

‎In Arsenal’s official statement, manager Mikel Arteta said, “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Viktor Gyokeres to the club.

‎”The consistency he has shown in his performances and availability has been outstanding, and his goal contributions speak for themselves.”

‎Both Arsenal and Sporting were engaged in lengthy negotiations, with the transfer delay caused by disagreements over the deal’s bonus structure.

‎Sporting reportedly preferred the add-ons to be linked to performance milestones, while Arsenal sought to establish more challenging targets.

‎There was also friction on Gyokeres’ end after failing to report back for pre-season training to force a move to North London.

‎Arsenal set their sights on the 27-year-old after initially targeting RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but saw no progress beyond interest.

‎Gyokeres transferred to Sporting from Coventry in July 2023, impressively netting 97 goals in 102 appearances and contributing to the club’s consecutive Primeira Liga titles.

‎His performances in the most recent season, during which he scored 54 goals in 52 games, heightened interest in his services.

‎Since making his Sweden debut in 2019, Gyokeres has earned 26 caps and scored 15 goals for the national team.

‎Arsenal will face Newcastle at the Singapore National Stadium on Sunday before their final pre-season match against Tottenham in Hong Kong on July 31st.
