Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion Set for Medical Ahead Of Chelsea Move
Chelsea are set for medical tests with Atletico Madrid striker, Samu Omorodion, as his proposed transfer edges closer to completion.
Chelsea managed to secure an agreement with Atletico following negotiations over Conor Gallagher, who will move to Madrid in a separate transfer.
Samu, just 20 years old and with only 9 goals in the top flight to his name, is set to cost Chelsea around £35 million. Fabrizio Romano reports that the young talent has agreed to a seven-year contract lasting until 2031 and is scheduled for a medical.
Additionally, despite closing in on a deal for Samu, Chelsea is still in discussions regarding Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, viewing the two negotiations as not mutually exclusive.
With Samu joining Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea is well-equipped in the number nine position, reducing the pressure to meet Napoli’s high asking price for Osimhen.
However, Osimhen is pushing for a move, and Napoli is eager to offload his wages.
This situation leads Chelsea to believe that circumstances may force the Serie A club to eventually agree to a lower offer or a different payment structure.
At 25 years old, Osimhen is older than many of the players Chelsea has shown interest in recent seasons. However, he is a striker with proven quality, having scored 65 goals in Serie A since moving to Italy in 2020, including an impressive 26 goals during Napoli’s title-winning campaign in the 2022/23 season.
Samu possesses significant untapped potential for the long term. The Spaniard was still a teenager until May and spent the 2022/23 season playing in Spain’s fourth tier with Granada’s B team.
This performance earned him a transfer to Atletico last summer, which subsequently led to a loan at Alaves.
After one-in-one for Granada’s first team ironically against Atletico Madrid days before joining them Samu scored eight times in 34 La Liga appearances for mid-table Alaves.
