Barcelona Confirms Long-Term Contract Agreement With Ronald Araujo
Barcelona has confirmed that an agreement with Ronald Araujo is in place over a new long-term contract with the club.
Araujo’s future has remained uncertain for a while, as the Uruguayan has been frequently linked to Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United in recent seasons. His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026.
The versatile defender was also potentially a saleable asset at a time when Barcelona was desperate for cash injections.
But with the club now putting several years of financial woes behind them, Araujo’s value on the pitch is greater than his value in the market.
The new contract spans six years and will extend until the conclusion of the 2030/31 season. Should Araujo fulfill the contract, he will have been a Barcelona player for over a decade by the time it concludes.
The player joined Barcelona from little-known Uruguayan club Boston River in 2018, initially linking up with the Atletic squad and becoming a regular first-teamer a couple of years later.
In 2023, Araujo became third captain and was later promoted to vice-captain last summer when overall skipper Sergi Roberto left the club.
A serious hamstring injury suffered during the Copa America, requiring surgery at a specialist clinic in Finland, ruled Araujo out of the first half of this season.
However, he returned to action against Barbastro in the Copa del Rey, captaining the team in the absence of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Since then, he has started matches against Real Madrid, Real Betis, Getafe, and Benfica across four different competitions.
