A new injury has been sustained by FC Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen shortly after making his return from a five-month absence, according to a statement from the Catalan club on their website.

“First-team player Andreas Christensen suffered a right soleus injury during Monday’s training session. He will be out for approximately three weeks,” the statement from the club read.

Christensen, who has been very injury-prone throughout his career, has just made one appearance this season when he was in action against Valencia on the opening day.

Following that game, the Danish international was out for five months due to surgery related to his Achilles tendinopathy, a condition that had been affecting him since the previous season.

Christensen made his comeback to the squad earlier this month, but the Danish international’s return to the pitch will now be put on hold for three further weeks as he has suffered a fresh injury setback.

There have been reports of interest from the Premier League and Serie A during the transfer window, but a possible move is now off the table due to the recent injury.
