Barcelona Target Nico Williams Given New Shirt Number At Athletic Club

Barcelona target, Nico Williams, has been given a new squad number at Athletic Club ahead of the start of the new 2024-25 La Liga season.

Williams has been wearing the No. 11 for the Basque side but will switch to the No. 10 for the new campaign.

The number became available this summer following Iker Muniain’s departure, and Williams appears quite excited to take it on.

“Very happy to wear Muniain’s number 10 and to make history as he has done,” he told the club’s media.

The move comes amid continued speculation that Barca wants to try and sign Nico before the transfer window closes.

The Catalans reportedly believe that Williams is keen on making the move to Catalunya this summer and are exploring options to finance the transfer.

Williams has returned for pre-season with Athletic after winning Euro 2024 with Spain but missed their most recent friendly in Germany against Stuttgart.

Ernesto Valverde’s team is set to kick off their La Liga campaign on Thursday against Getafe.
