Bayern Munich Defeat Relegation-threatened Koln
Bayern Munich managed to secure a much-needed victory with a 2-0 scoreline against relegation-threatened Koln at Allianz Arena, marking their first clean sheet in 11 matches.
This win delayed Bayer Leverkusen’s title-winning confirmation and also provided Bayern with a confidence boost after a series of disappointing results.
The match started with Bayern aiming to avoid a third consecutive Bundesliga defeat for the first time since 2015. Despite a slow start and a missed opportunity by Sargis Adamyan, stand-in goalkeeper Sven Ulreich showed his skills with a fantastic reflex save to deny the Armenian, setting the tone for Bayern’s defensive resilience.
As the game progressed, Bayern found their rhythm, with Raphael Guerreiro and others testing Koln’s defense. The breakthrough finally came with a stunning goal from Guerreiro, who curled a beautiful finish into the corner after a well-worked short corner routine.
Despite losing Kingsley Coman to injury early in the second half, Bayern continued to press forward, with Mathys Tel also coming close to scoring. Koln, struggling at the bottom of the table, failed to mount a significant comeback, highlighting their offensive struggles throughout the season.
The match also saw Bayern’s goalkeeper Ulreich making crucial saves, including one from Steffen Tigges, ensuring Bayern’s 20th consecutive unbeaten head-to-head record against Koln, the longest active run in the Bundesliga against any opponent.
The victory was sealed in stoppage time by Thomas Muller, who added a second goal for Bayern, providing a morale boost ahead of their upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash with Arsenal.
